The Loire Valley Region and its wines

The Loire Valley is the largest wine-growing region in France. It begins on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean near Nantes and ends its extension towards Orléans.

The region offers all types of wines: white, rosé, red, sweet and sparkling. The winegrowers of the Loire Valley achieve real viticultural prowess, offering true marvels at all prices and in all styles.

There are four main areas: The Pays Nantais, Anjou, Touraine and the Centre-Val de Loire. Each of these regions has a distinct personality with its favourite grape varieties.

The Nantes area

This is the kingdom of Muscadet with the grape variety: Melon de Bourgogne. This wine, long underestimated for its poor quality, is today experiencing a new youth. The Muscadet vintages offer dry wines of good quality that can be aged for several years.

The Domaine de la Guipière and its History

Château Guipière is located in Vallet, capital of Muscadet, in the Nantes region. It is a place steeped in history since the 15th century.
Formerly called La Guiptière, this place was attached to the lordship of Pallet (15th century). Along with Clisson, the Pallet was one of the most influential lordships in the region. In 1743, the rents from sharecropping the vines were collected by the Priory of the Trinity of Clisson.

Its castle was built in the 18th century. The buildings on the estate such as the stable, the saddlery, the orange grove and the tower bear witness to the influences of Tuscan architecture of the time. In the Clisson region, there are many buildings built in this style, notably in La Garenne Lemot.

The owner of the estate, unhappy in love, decided to ward off fate and destroyed the Château in the 19th century. No trace of it remains to this day.
The first historical traces of the vines of the Domaine de la Guipière appear in 1842.
Just after the Second World War, the Charpentier family took over the sharecropping of the vines.
Since the end of 2015, the Château Guipière estate has been the property of Philippe Nevoux and is run by Stéphane Gouraud.
