A rich terroir towards organic viticulture

The terroir of each winery is of vital importance to the development of its vines and wines. The same grape variety produces different wines depending on where the vines grow. The winemaker's know-how has a real impact on the diversity of his wines. Terroir represents this interaction between nature, the vine and the winemaker's practices.

For more than five years, Stéphane, our vineyard manager, has made it a point of honor to persevere with biodiversity, a guarantee of an environmental approach, by eliminating insecticides, herbicides and the most toxic fungicides.

As you know, nature does things well, and will repay you if you take good care of her. At Château Guipière, we work with all the plants and animals that live on the estate. Woods, ponds, stone walls, copses and meadows are not left to chance and contribute to a perfect cohabitation of biodiversity.

In 2016, Château Guipière was awarded the HVE (High Environmental Value) label. This certification attests to a viticulture recognized for its global approach to sustainable development. The HVE label promotes the respect of good environmental practices by winegrowers and encourages the protection of nature. It obliges winegrowers to follow practices that respect the environment, and thus to produce products that are more respectful of nature than those produced by so-called "conventional" agriculture.

Château Guipière has naturally chosen to convert to organic viticulture. In 2017, the work in the vineyards was modified by changes in soil management and vine maintenance. Fertilizers are organic, the vines are tilled, and sprays are based on phytosanitary products approved for organic farming or biocontrol products (products with no environmental toxicity)

This conversion confirms the adaptability of our terroir and the quality of our wines. The conversion process was completed in 2021, and the first certified organic harvests will take place in 2024.
